Elleyne Kase: Book covers and interiors that honor the intent and create effective marketing

Recent contract awards: I am honored and proud to announce a new professional relationship as literary representative with Waterside Productions. Two writers I represent have recently been awarded revision contracts by the Dummies series publisher Wiley in New York. One title, the “Dummies for GRE” with author Ron Woldoff; and the second “Dummies for Calculus” with ASU professor Yang Kuang should be on the shelves of the major book sellers by January 2011.

Writing a book and designing a book cover are two different things.

A cover REPRESENTS a manuscript but is NOT a manuscript. Designing a book cover one needs to put themselves in the place of a first time customer.

A book can't be judged by its cover but that may be how it's bought.

Unless the author is present to sell each book personally, a prospective client may only be able to judge whether he buys the book by its cover.

Target market, color, copy,
and typography all must
be considered for an
effective design.

"I Think Sadi Arabia Suks,'"
Cover and interior design by Elleyne Kase

Original letters from the children were scanned and made a focal point in the page design. Typography was chosen that complemented the theme. The children's illustrations were used to create chapter-head spot art as well as central design components for the front and back cover.

The designer considers your book from a marketing perspective.
